Setting up OBS (and Invite Guests to your stream)

You can use bring guests onto your District livestream using a combination of District, OBS, and Virtual Audio Cable. To get started, make sure you have the latest version of OBS downloaded as well as a Virtual Audio Cable (only you need this software—not your guests).

Software You'll Need

OBS (Open Broadcaster Software)

Virtual Audio Cable by VB-Audio (any virtual cable should work)

Getting Started

Start-up a session of your preferred video conferencing software e.g. Zoom, Discord, Google Meet. For the purposes of this tutorial, we will use Zoom.

Open OBS and in the Controls panel, click the Start Virtual Camera button to start a virtual camera session.

Setting up your Video

From the Sources panel, hit the + button to add a new Source.

Select the following video source: Window Capture.

Choose the Create new option and name it Zoom Camera.

In the Window option drop-down, select Zoom Meeting

You should now see your Zoom video conference window from your OBS virtual camera. The middle third of the camera is what will show up when you stream to District.

When you invite another guest on Zoom, both of you show-up on the video together! Just make sure that your Zoom window is positioned so that participants are stacked one on top of each other.

Setting up your Audio

From the Controls Panel, Click Settings.

Select the Audio tab, and in the Advanced section, change your Monitoring Device to your virtual audio cable, VB-Cable.

From the Sources panel, add another new source by hitting the + button.

Select the following Source: Audio Output Capture.

Choose the Create new option and name it Virtual Audio Cable.

Under the Device drop-down, select your virtual audio cable, VB-Cable.

From the Audio Mixer panel, hit the Gears button to open Advanced Audio Properties:

In the Audio Monitoring section, change your Mic/Aux and Virtual Audio Cable to Monitor and Output:

Now your OBS video and audio should be all set-up to host multiple guests via Zoom. All you have to do now is hook your OBS to your District stream Webcam & OBS support and you're all set!
